ANTI-Records is an American independent label and was founded in 1999 as a sub-label of Epitaph Records . Andy Kaulkin is the label boss. While Epitaph concentrates on punk rock , the engagement of ANTI- is broader and ranges from hip-hop (Blackalicious) to reggae (Buju Banton) and country (Merle Haggard) to indie rock (Elliott Smith). The label first caused a stir in 1999 when Tom Waits had his Mule Variations distributed by ANTI-. Several other established artists switched from their major labels to ANTI-, including Marianne Faithfull and the rhythm and blues legends Solomon Burke and Bettye LaVette .
