Spoon (dt. Spoon ) is an American indie rock band from Austin .
history
The band was founded in 1993 and initially consisted of singer, guitarist and songwriter Britt Daniel, drummer Jim Eno, bassist Andy Maguire and guitarist Greg Wilson. The name Spoon was inspired by the German krautrock band Can , who released a song of this name, the title track of the film Das Messer , on their 1972 album Ege Bamyasi . Wilson got out again in 1994, Maguire shortly after the release of the debut album Telephono in 1996. The new bassist was initially Telephono producer John Croslin, later Josh Zarbo, and since 2007 Rob Pope. Eric Harvey (keyboard and guitar) has been a member of the band since 2004 and Alex Fischel, who Daniel brought with him from his side project Divine Fits, in the same role since 2013 .
Spoon signed a contract with Elektra Records in 1998 , but the contract was terminated after the release of the second album A Series of Sneaks . In response to her dismissal, Spoon released the EP The Agony of Laffitte , alluding to the Elektra manager Ron Laffitte. Eventually they got a contract with Merge Records . In Europe, however, your work is distributed by Matador Records . For the release of the follow-up albums, Spoon received increasing attention and recognition. Girls Can Tell , released in 2001, sold better than the two previous albums combined. Kill the Moonlight from the following year was a similar success.
In May 2005 their album Gimme Fiction was released , which brought them the final breakthrough. In the official album charts they reached number 44. Their next album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga made it into the US Top 10 in 2007 and was released in Germany on July 10th on the ANTI Records label. The seventh album, Transference , was released in early 2010 and reached number 4 in the USA, followed by They Want My Soul in 2014 .
