Crossroads is a server load balancing software (English: load balancer ) for Linux , as free software is licensed. The daemon distributes data for any services that use the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to multiple servers . It masters several distribution algorithms , such as prioritization according to transfer volume and connection duration. With HTTP , sessions can be included in the distribution. Failed servers are automatically recognized and used again when they are available again.

Self-defined procedures can be integrated in both the distribution and the availability check. For example, a MySQL database can be used to check whether queries can actually be answered. When distributing the load, the load on the target machine can be taken into account.

According to the company, the project is also used on web servers with several million page views a day.
