Dr. Dog are an American rock band from the US state of Pennsylvania, founded in 1999 .

Band history

The band emerged from Leaman's and McMickens music project Racoon . They released their first album The Psychedelic Swamp in 2001 on their own. After Jim James became aware of her second album Toothbrush , he invited her on a tour with his band My Morning Jacket . After positive press reports, Dr. Dog signed by Park The Van Records . The breakthrough came with the "album bursting with perfect pop melodies" ( Musikexpress ) We All Belong from 2007, after which they appeared on Late Night with David Letterman . Her following long players could all place in the US charts. In 2009 they switched to the renowned ANTI Records label, which released the albums Shame, Shame , Be the Void and B-Room .

From July to September 2007, the band uploaded ten new songs to their website for streaming every week, which were later released as an album entitled Passed Away, Vol. 1 . In 2010 they contributed the song The Unicorn to the album Twistable, Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute to the Songs of Shel Silverstein .

style

The psychedelic folk style is heavily influenced by the 1960s . Their somewhat weird, melodic sound is shaped by the voices of the two singers Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman.
