history
The Tennessee Fire , the debut album, was released on the independent label Darla Records in 1999 , as was At Dawn two years later. In 2003 they released It Still Moves , their debut on a major label . James' singing talent came to the fore on the live EP Acoustic Citsuoca , which was released afterwards . His voice was complemented by a sparse instrumentation. The record managed without the reverb that is otherwise typical for the band .
After three albums and various EPs, the band released two compilations of early works that also include old demos, live recordings and covers ( Early Recordings Chapter 1 - The Sandworm Cometh and Early Recordings Chapter 2 - Learning ).
My Morning Jacket performed annually at the Bonnaroo Music Festival from 2003 to 2006 , as the only band ever to be invited four times in a row.
In 2005 James sang on the album I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning by the Bright Eyes , and also on two songs from M. Ward's album Transistor Radio . In October of this year they released the album Z in the USA. It got good reviews.
In 2005, the band appeared in Cameron Crowe's film, Elizabethtown, as the fictional southern rock band Ruckus , including covering Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird". Her songs "Where to Begin" and "Same In Any Language" were also featured on the film's soundtrack.
The music television series Austin City Limits aired a show with My Morning Jacket in 2006, in the same year they appeared at the Coachella Valley Music Festival , as well as at the High Sierra Music Festival. In 2006 James received the "Esky" award for best songwriter in the April issue of Esquire magazine . In June they were guests of talk show host David Letterman . My Morning Jacket played in May / June 2005 in the opening act for Pearl Jam .
Jim James also appears in the film I'm Not There by Todd Haynes , along with Calexico on. There they play in a scene by Bob Dylan Going To Acapulco . In this line-up (Jim James & Calexico) a version of the same title is also included on the score for the film, which was released in 2007 on Columbia Records . In the Soundtrack Concert held at the Beacon Theater in New York City on November 7, 2007 , My Morning Jacket appeared under the Bob Dylan title Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You .
