Roy Arbogast

Roy Howard Arbogast (* Montana , United States ) is a special effects artist . In 1978 he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Close Encounters of the Third Kind .

Life

He moved to California at the age of six , where he also went to college. His first job in film was as a set worker on a film with Doris Day and Rock Hudson . He first worked in the field of special effects in the feature film The Jaws . In 1977 he worked on Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind , for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects along with Gregory Jein , Douglas Trumbull , Matthew Yuricich and Richard Yuricich .

For the next 20 years he worked as a VFX Supervisor on films such as Return of the Jedi , On the Run, and Beyond the Horizon .
