life and work

Richard Yuricich has worked primarily on science fiction film productions and has been nominated three times for an Oscar in the category of best visual effects . He received the Saturn Award in the Best Special Effects category for his involvement in Star Trek: The Film .

Richard Yuricich's interest in visual effects began as an amateur photographer in the 1960s. While working for the armaments manufacturer Litton Industries (including electronics for the Lockheed F-104 ), he accepted the offer in 1967 to work as an animator on the series The Peanuts under the direction of Bill Meléndez . Shortly thereafter, 1968 followed with 2001: A Space Odyssey, his first major project.

In the following decades he was responsible for camera work in productions such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind or his perhaps best-known work Blade Runner . Also involved in these two films was his brother Matthew Yuricich , a Matte Painter . The Losers from 2010 is Richard Yuricich's last film to date.

According to his own statement, he is one of the “graduates of the 2001 class”. Since Richard Yuricich gives practically no interviews and is considered “press shy”, very little is known about the background of his work and his private life.
