Matthew Yuricich

Matthew J. Yuricich (born January 19, 1923 in Lorain , Ohio - † May 28, 2012 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American Matte Painter who was involved in many science fiction film productions. For his work on Escape to the 23rd Century , he was awarded a special Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1977 .

life and work

After studying art at Miami University and the University of California , Matthew Yuricich worked as a matte painter in the film industry at 20th Century Fox , Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Paramount Pictures from 1950 . After a period as a freelancer in the 1970s, he worked for Richard Edlund's effects factory, Boss Films , in the 1980s .

Matthew Yuricich's best-known works include: a. Ben Hur , year 2022 ... who want to survive , escape into the 23rd century , close encounters of the third kind , Star Trek: The Film or Blade Runner .

Yuricich retired in 1991 after his last film Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man . His brother Richard Yuricich is a well-known special effects expert and cameraman - they worked together in the films Close Encounters of the Third Kind , Star Trek: The Film and Blade Runner .
