Red Alert 2 (Original Title: Under Siege 2: Dark Territory ) is an action film from 1995 . It is the sequel to the film Under Siege ( Under Siege ).

Former Navy Seal Casey Ryback lost his brother James in a plane crash . Together with his niece Sarah, he travels on the Grand Continental luxury train from Denver to Los Angeles to mourn his grave. But the relationship is hypothermic because Sarah is firstly no longer the little girl Casey initially thinks she is, and secondly she blames Ryback for her relationship with his brother and, as a result, for her father's death.

Among the travelers is also the computer specialist Travis Dane, who was believed to be dead and who once developed the secret pressure wave satellite Grazer One for the United States Department of Defense to destroy underground targets, but who was fired a little later and who now wants to take revenge on his former employer. Two of his former colleagues, a male and female captain, each of whom knows one of the two satellite access codes, meet in a train compartment for a secret love affair. Supported by the 30-man mercenary force of the unscrupulous Penn, Dane captures the Grand Continental and takes the inmates hostage . Under threat of physical violence, Dane forced his former colleagues to give up the access codes, hacked into the computer of the Ministry of Defense and, with the help of the satellite surveillance equipment brought in by the mercenaries, brought Grazer One under his control. Interested "investors" from the Middle East are now supposed to transfer one billion dollars to him for the destruction of the Pentagon , the secret nuclear reactor underneath and thus all of Washington . One of the investors is also offering $ 100 million to shoot down a plane his ex-wife is in. After the confirmed money transfer within minutes, Dane will execute the order.

By chance, Ryback remains undetected during capture and, through his close combat experience, decimates the attackers one after the other while he tries to get the train under his control and notify the authorities. He only receives support from the loud-mouthed porter Bobby Zachs.

Ryback finally manages to use a train phone to inform the government about the hijacking of the Grand Continental as Dane's hiding place, which then dispatches two stealth bombers to destroy the train. But with the help of Grazer One , Dane can also blow up the fighter planes. The destruction of Washington, DC is imminent, as the billion dollars have been transferred, the countdown is on and the Department of Defense first has to work through a network of 50 ghost satellites that Dane constructed to camouflage Grazer One . He also steers the train on a single-track route and on a collision course with a freight train loaded with petrol . Ryback only has a few minutes left.

He uncouples the wagons with the hostages, kills the last mercenaries and finally Penn, who has brought Sarah into his power. Shortly before the ultimatum expires , he shoots Dane's notebook, which shuts down together with the camouflage program - and thus gives the government the opportunity to destroy Grazer One at the last second. At the same time, the two trains collide, Casey and Sarah save themselves at the last moment on the mercenary helicopter that Bobby has brought under his control.
