Everett McGill
Everett Charles McGill III (born October 21, 1945 in Miami Beach , Florida ) is an American actor .
Life
Everett McGill was educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London . He then played in several award-winning plays on Broadway in New York .
After a role in the soap opera Springfield Story (1975), he became known to a larger audience for his impersonation of the caveman Naoh in the French-Canadian-American film In the Beginning of the Fire by Jean-Jacques Annaud . His roles as the corrupt FBI agent Killifer in the James Bond film License to Kill or as an opponent of Steven Seagal on Red Alert are also remembered . With his muscular stature and distinctive facial features, McGill was particularly often subscribed to villain roles.
Repeatedly he worked with David Lynch , who cast him in his movies The Desert Planet and A True Story - The Straight Story and as a gas station owner Big Ed Hurley in the series Twin Peaks . McGill retired from acting to Arizona in the late 1990s and was at times considered hard to find. It was not until 2017, after David Lynch had found him after a long search, to appear again as Big Ed in the new edition of Twin Peaks .
His last name equality with the actor Bruce McGill was his undoing in the course of the casting preparations for the series Babylon 5 . Inventor and producer J. Michael Straczynski wanted to cast him for the role of Major Ryan in the episode The Criminal Action. Straczynski only knew Everett McGill's last name when he tried to invite him to an audition. So, against his better judgment, he answered yes to his assistant's question whether he wanted Bruce McGill. He only noticed the mix-up when he was standing in front of him. Despite this mistake, Straczynski chose Bruce McGill.
Awards
For his role in the Twin Peaks series , McGill was nominated for the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Prime Time Series .
