The 25th British Academy Film Awards took place in 1972 in London . The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards were presented in 18 categories; there was also an honorary award. Films from 1971 were honored .

Award winners and nominations

With twelve nominations, Joseph Losey's Der Mittler was a big favorite in the run-up to the event, but like Luchino Visconti's death in Venice, it received only four prizes. The winner of the evening was John Schlesinger's Sunday, Bloody Sunday , which received five awards from eight nominations. One of the losers was Miloš Forman's Taking Off , who missed out on six nominations.
