The 34th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place in London in 1981 . The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards were presented in 14 categories; there was also a special and an honorary award category. The awards were given to films made in 1980 .

Award winners and nominations

David Lynch's The Elephant Man led the field of potential winners of the evening with seven nominations , followed by Bob Fosses Behind the Limelight and Robert Benton's Kramer vs. Kramer , who each received six nominations. With three awards, Der Elefantenmensch finally won the most prizes, while Kramer received nothing against Kramer and thus became the big loser of the evening.
