The Dollar Bottom (alternatively The Dollar Bottom & Taylor's Finest Hour ) is a British short film by Roger Christian from 1981, the script of which is based on a short story by James Kennaway . It tells the story of an enterprising student at a boarding school in Edinburgh in 1953 who offered his classmates insurance to provide an insurance benefit should they be beaten with a cane. The venture quickly becomes extremely lucrative for the inventive boy and earns him a small fortune. But then the headmaster intervenes personally.
