Shane Connaughton

Shane Connaughton (born April 4, 1941 in Kingscourt , County Cavan , Ireland ) is a British actor , writer and screenwriter .

Life

Connaughton spent his early teens with four brothers and three sisters in Kingscourt. At the age of ten, he moved to Redhills with his family . As a young man he went to London , where he initially pursued various professions, and attended the Bristol Old Vic Theater School at the age of 20 . He then worked as an actor at the Royal National Theater and the Abbey Theater Dublin . From the 1970s he also starred in British television series such as Coronation Street . In 1980 he wrote the screenplay for the short film The Dollar Bottom , which won an Oscar . In 1990 he was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay for My Left Foot . The year before, he published his first novel, A Border Station , followed in 1991 by The Run of the Country . In 1995 he adapted his novel into the script for the feature film The Land of My Love . His third novel, Big Parts , was published in 2009.

Connaughton is married with two children.
