Christopher Newman (sound engineer)
Christopher "Chris" Newman (born February 17, 1940 in New York City , New York ) is an American sound engineer and three-time Oscar winner .
Life
Newman made his debut on two episodes of television series in 1968. In 1969 he was responsible for the sound of a feature film for the first time. In the following 40 years he was involved in around 80 films, working several times with Miloš Forman and Jonathan Demme . After he had worked on Forman's film version of the musical Hair in 1979 , he worked several times over the next few years as a sound engineer or sound mixer on musical film adaptations.
1974 Newman was with Robert Knudson for the film The Exorcist with the Oscar for best sound excellent. In 1985 he received the award again, this time together with Mark Berger , Thomas Scott and Todd Boekelheide for their work on Amadeus . Newman received his third Oscar in 1997 together with Walter Murch , Mark Berger and David Parker for The English Patient . In addition, Newman received Oscar nominations for five other films: 1972 for French Connection - Focal Point Brooklyn , 1973 for The Godfather , 1981 for Fame - The Road to Glory , 1986 for A Chorus Line and 1992 for The Silence of the Lambs .
Christopher Newman teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
