British Academy Film Awards 1997

The 50th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on April 29, 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall, London . The film prizes of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) were awarded in 20 categories, plus three special or honorary award categories. The evening was hosted by British comedian Lenny Henry .

With 13 nominations, Anthony Minghella's The English Patient was a big favorite in advance; with six awards it was finally the most successful film of the evening. Alan Parker's Evita received nothing from eight nominations.
