The 50th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on April 29, 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall, London . The film prizes of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) were awarded in 20 categories, plus three special or honorary award categories. The evening was hosted by British comedian Lenny Henry .
