Didier Brunner

Didier Brunner (* 1948 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French film producer.

Life

Didier Brunner studied at the Institute of Theater Studies at the Free University of Berlin and founded the production company Trans-Europe Films in 1987, which specialized in animation films. In 1992 the two works Les Contes de la nuit and the short film Elles were released . In 1994 he left the production company and founded Les Armateurs . There he made his debut in 1997 with the short film The Old Lady and the Doves , for which he received the BAFTA and the Genie Award together with his co-producer Bernard Lajoie and the director Sylvain Chomet . The company made a name for itself outside of France with films such as Kiriku and the Sorceress (1998) and The Great Race of Belleville (2004). His other productions include the two sequels to Kiriku and the Sorceress (2005 and 2009), Brendan and the Secret of Kells (2009) and Ernest & Célestine (2012). The latter work was nominated for an Oscar for " Best Animated Film " in 2014 and received the César for Best Animated Film.

Specializing in animated films, his only real-life film so far has been Kill Me Please , a Belgian-French comedy by Olias Barco .

In 2014 he resigned as President of Les Armateurs and left the post to Reginald de Guillebon , head of the Hildegarde company, which Les Armateurs bought in 2011. Brunner will remain with the production company as a consultant, but will otherwise endeavor to promote young animators at the university .
