The 86th ceremony of Oscars ( english 86th Academy Awards ) took place on March 2, 2014 Dolby Theater in Los Angeles instead.
As in the previous year, American film, television and theater producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were responsible for the production of the 86th Academy Awards . The award ceremony was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres , who was nominated for an Emmy in 2007 for her Oscar moderation. Ellen DeGeneres (2007, 2014) and Whoopi Goldberg (1994, 1996, 1999, 2002) are so far the only women to host an Oscar ceremony alone; Anne Hathaway hosted with James Franco in 2011 .
The nominations were announced on January 16, 2014. American Hustle and Gravity each received ten nominations , followed by 12 Years a Slave with nine nominations. American Hustle , which was also nominated as the only film of the year for all Big Five , went out of the awards as a big loser and did not receive a single statuette. The winner of the evening was Gravity with seven Oscars.
Among the nominees at the time was the song Alone Yet Not Alone by Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel from the film of the same name , which the Board of Governors later disqualified because Broughton had emailed some members of the Academy during the nomination period to draw attention to the film. This was considered a violation of the Academy rules.
