Petro Vlahos (born August 20, 1916 in Raton , New Mexico , † February 10, 2013 ) was an American film technician who was awarded film prizes for his numerous technical film developments, especially in the field of blue screen technology .

Life

Vlahos developed numerous improvements in film technology in the area of special effects and particularly in the area of blue screen technology . At the Oscar ceremony in 1961 , he won together with Arthur Holcomb from the camera division of Columbia Pictures an Oscar for technical merit ( Technical Achievement Award ) "for a camera flicker display device" (, For a camera flicker Indicating device ').

At the Oscar ceremony in 1965 , he was with Wadsworth E. Pohl and Ub Iwerks 'for the introduction and improvement of techniques in the fields of vision mixers and compositing "(, For the conception and perfection of techniques for Color Traveling Matte Composite Cinematography') an Academy Award of Merit .

In 1978 Vlahos, who founded the Ultimatte Corporation with his son Paul Vlahos in Chatsworth in 1976 , was awarded a special Primetime Emmy "For the invention and development of the ULTIMATTE video-matting device" ) awarded.
