Wadsworth E. Pohl

Wadsworth Egmont Pohl (born February 13, 1908 in Redlands (California) , United States , † February 12, 1990 in Los Angeles ) was an American engineer and technical developer who was awarded a technology Oscar in 1965 .

Life

Pohl grew up in San Bernardino County , California, and received his technical training in California. He soon made a name for himself as a technical developer and inventor and filed numerous patents. His most important achievement in the cinematic field he made in 1963 in association with Petro Vlahos and Ub Iwerks in the Disney classic Mary Poppins , which was created that year . In 1965, all three named were awarded a technology Oscar “for the development and application of Color Traveling Matte Composite Cinematography, a process that made it possible to combine real actors with cartoon characters”. Pohl died the day before his 82nd birthday.
