Oscar / Scientific and Technical Academy Award of Merit

The Academy Award of Merit of the Scientific and Technical Awards has been awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1931 . It recognizes achievements that have a significant influence on the technical progress of the film industry. These services do not have to have been performed in the year preceding the award.

The Academy Award of Merit is the highest Oscar honor for technical achievements within the film industry , ahead of the Prize for Science and Development (Class II) and the Prize for Technical Merit (Class III) . The winners receive an Oscar statuette as a Class I award. The Academy Award of Merit is not given every year.
