Helium is a Danish short film directed by Anders Walter from 2014 . On January 16, 2014, the film was nominated for the 2014 Academy Awards and on March 2, 2014 it was awarded an Oscar in the Best Short Film category.

Alfred is a boy suffering from an incurable disease who is in a hospital. There, Alfred met the cleaner Enzo while he was doing his work. A friendship develops between the two and Enzo begins to tell the boy a story about helium , as a beautiful and exciting alternative to the afterlife in heaven. Enzo tells Alfred that the only way to get to helium is by airship. But the airship will recognize him by his dog knotted from a red balloon and will take him away.
Alfred's illness worsens and he is transferred to another department in the hospital that Enzo has no access to. Enzo sneaks up to him anyway. He is caught doing this and continues to be denied entry. In an interview with Sonja, a nurse, Enzo reproaches himself for telling lies to the boy. Sonja replies, however, that Enzo gave the boy hope.
Since Enzo cannot visit Alfred in his department, he writes down the end of the story and Sonja wants to read it to Alfred. When she starts, she changes her mind and grants Enzo access to the department so that Alfred can tell the end himself.
Alfred wants to know how he can enter the airship, when Enzo answers, the camera changes to Alfred's view. Without words, Alfred gets out of bed fully dressed and goes to the window. A huge airship is waiting for him there. He goes over a plank from the hospital onto it and flies away. Alfred sees that there are red dogs knotted from balloons in many windows of the hospital.
