Life

Borten grew up in Plymouth , Massachusetts and attended Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School. Borten's father died in 1986.

When Borten first read about the AIDS patient who sold prescription drugs from the black market to other patients, he was immediately fascinated by the story. 1992 arranged an interview with Ron Woodroof about his experience with diagnosing AIDS and having such a club. After a three-day conversation, Woodroof died a month later. Borten began writing several drafts for a screenplay and eventually teamed up with Melisa Wallack in 2000 . Based on her script, the film Dallas Buyers Club was made in 2013 , which was nominated for an Oscar in six categories in 2014 .

"Every scene in the film is talking to a man who wants to live and I think having a part of it in you - not wanting to die and doing all you can do to stay alive - is kind of What can prolong your life I think part of it extends Ron's life and I think it was very similar to my father. He wanted to look for alternative drugs. The doctors were very cold. There were only protocols for certain chemotherapy treatments and we looked abroad. He was never really faced with death until he had to - on a physical level but not on an emotional level. I think Ron Woodroof's character was very similar and when I read about Ron Woodroof, that's what spoke to my heart. "
