Anthony Katagas
Anthony Katagas (* 1971 in New York City ) is an American film producer with Greek roots. He won an Oscar in 2014 for the film 12 Years a Slave .
Life
Anthony Katagas studied direction and attachment theory at Western New England University in Massachusetts . He also played successfully lacrosse as a goalkeeper and team captain. He stayed with the sport and now plays as a senior in the university's men's team. In 2013 he was MVP at a championship in Las Vegas . He graduated from the university in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts .
After completing his studies, he first worked as a production assistant and later as an assistant director . He has worked on more than 20 films, mainly from the independent sector , such as Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation , Denys Arcands Stardom and Michael Almereydas Hamlet (2000) .
In 2000 he founded his own production company in New York with Keep Your Head Productions . The best-known works include the Almereyda works Happy Here and Now (2002), This So-Called Disaster: Sam Shepard Directs the Late Henry Moss (2003) and William Eggleston in the Real World (2005), Heroes of the Night - We Own the Night (2007), Married Accidentally (2008), College Road Trip (2008), and The Long Bright Days (2013). In 2004 he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award .
In 2014 he won the Oscar for best picture along with Brad Pitt , Dede Gardner , Jeremy Kleiner and Steve McQueen .
