The long bright days ( Georgian : გრძელი ნათელი დღეები, Grzeli nateli dgeebi ) is a film drama by the German-Georgian directors Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß . The camera was Oleg Mutu .

action

The film is set in Tbilisi in 1992. A civil war is raging in Georgia. The two 14-year-old girls Natia and Eka face an uncertain future. Eka and Natia try to cope with this situation and, for example, rebel against their class teacher. Eka's father is in prison for murder, but - unlike the rest of the family - she does not visit him there. Natia's father is a drinker and her parents are always fighting. During this time, Natia receives a pistol from her admirer Lado, which she gives to her friend Eka, who is constantly suffering from attacks by boys from the neighborhood. Instead of using this weapon against her tormentors, however, Eka defends one of the boys with this weapon when he is beaten by others. When the young Natia is to be forced to marry, she receives the weapon back from Eka.

background

The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013 , where it won the prize awarded by the independent jury of the CICAE in the “Forum” section. The film was awarded the “Heart of Sarajevo” for best film. Georgia entered the 2013 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film , but did not make it among the nominees.

The working title for the film was “Shot in the Water”.
