Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is an honorary Oscar given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to an individual for special humanitarian merits in the interests of the film industry. The prize is a special prize and is not awarded automatically every year, but according to the occasion. He was named after the film actor Jean Hersholt(1886–1956) named who was President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1945 to 1949. For his commitment he was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1940 and 1950. After his death, the Academy introduced the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is still given today to particularly socially committed filmmakers. The award year numbers refer to the year of the respective Oscar award.
In the past, the award was given at the Oscars , but since 2009 there has been a separate event together with the other honorary Oscar .
