The 92nd presentation of the Oscars ( english 92nd Academy Awards ) took place on February 9, 2020 Dolby Theater in Los Angeles instead. In the year of the Academy Awards, awards are always given to films from the previous year, in this case the films of the year 2019 . The production of the 92nd Academy Awards was carried out for the first time by the two American film producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Stephanie Allain . As in the previous year , the award ceremony was again held without a moderator.
Todd Phillips ' comic book adaptation Joker led the field of favorites with eleven nominations . This was followed by Sam Mendes ' war drama 1917 , Martin Scorsese's mafia epic The Irishman and Quentin Tarantino's comedy Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, each with ten nominations . Joker became the most frequently nominated film of its kind (comic adaptation); by then, The Dark Knight held this brand with eight nominations at the 2009 Academy Awards . In addition, after Black Panther, it was only the second comic book adaptation to be nominated for best film.
The most successful film of the evening was Bong Joon-ho's South Korean entry Parasite , which won in the categories of Best Film , Best Director , Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film . This makes Parasite the first non-English language film to be recognized as best film. The 1917 war drama received three awards ( Best Camera , Best Sound and Best Visual Effects ). The comic book adaptation Joker ( Best Actor , Best Film Music ), the comedy Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ( Best Supporting Actor , Best Production Design ) and the racing drama Le Mans 66 - Against Every Chance ( Best Editing , Best Sound Editing ) each received two awards . The Irishman by Martin Scorsese came away empty as big loser of the evening.
