Marshall Curry is an American director and documentary filmmaker .

Curry grew up in Summit , New Jersey . He graduated from Summit High School in 1988 and graduated from Swarthmore College in 1992 with a degree in Comparative Religions. Curry was a Jane Addams Fellow in Philanthropy at Indiana University . Before working as a documentary filmmaker, Curry worked as an English teacher in Guanajuato , Mexico and for public service radio .

For his first documentary Street Fight , Curry was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 in the category " Best Documentary ". His film If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front was also nominated for an Oscar in the same category in 2011.
