James Mangold
James Mangold (born December 16, 1963 in New York City ) is an American director , screenwriter and film producer .
Life
Mangold was born in New York City to the painter Robert Mangold . His mother is also a painter. He graduated from Columbia University's School of the Arts' Faculty of Cinematography and the California Institute of the Arts . He later worked on cartoons for The Walt Disney Company .
Mangold made his debut as a director with the film Love Hunger (1995) with Liv Tyler and Shelley Winters in the lead roles. For this film he won the Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón Prize in two categories as well as the Prize of the Sundance Film Festival . Later he directed a. a. the film Girl, Interrupted (1999) with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie , for the Angelina Jolie film award Oscar won. He played a minor supporting role in the comedy film Super Sweet and Super Sexy (2002).
In 2005 he made the film Walk the Line about the life of the singer Johnny Cash , which was nominated for an Oscar in five categories (only Reese Witherspoon won for Best Actress ) and which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture (Musical / Comedy) .
In 2012 and 2016, he made two Marvel comics films with Hugh Jackman, Wolverine: Path of the Warrior and Logan - The Wolverine . He worked with Jackman on Kate & Leopold back in 2001 .
In 2020 his film Le Mans 66 was released with Matt Damon and Christian Bale in the leading roles. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. In May 2020 it was announced that Mangold would direct the fifth part of the Indiana Jones series.
Mangold has been married to the film producer Cathy Konrad since 1998 . They have two children together.
