Ernst lad (* 27. July 1907 in Crostauer district Carlsberg ; † 16th August 1989 in Dusseldorf ) was a German painter and an important representative of the Dresden painting school of Otto Dix .

Life

Lady's father and grandfather were mayors in Carlsberg. At an early stage, Bursche was supported by the Bautzen freemason and teacher Paul Jänichen, the founder of the Bautzen hiking group, who owned a hiking hut in Carlsberg. As early as 1922, Bursche learned the lithography trade at the Weigang company in Bautzen . In the period that followed, the first woodcuts were made .

From 1927 to 1929 he attended the Dresden Academy of Applied Arts and studied under Arno Drescher , among others . 1929 enrolled him at the Dresden Academy of Arts and studied with first Richard Müller and since 1930 as a master student of Otto Dix . He was a member of the Asso (Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists) and the Dresden Secession in 1932 . After Hitler came to power , Bursche was expelled from the academy and temporarily arrested because of his communist attitude. Bursche became increasingly friends with Otto Dix, who was also frowned upon as "degenerate".

From 1933 to 1939 Bursche was an exhibition designer at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden . During the Second World War he served temporarily in Tyrol . Bursche's studio and a significant part of his works were destroyed in the bombing raid on Dresden on February 13, 1945 , including many from his early days in Carlsberg.

The artistic narrowing in the style of " Socialist Realism " in the GDR was rejected by him. Fellow traveled a lot, u. a. to West Berlin and West Germany . The fashionable abstraction there was not his thing either. He made further trips to Ischia , Sardinia and Sicily . In 1962 he moved to Düsseldorf. His pictures in the Dresden studio were confiscated. Since he didn't really feel at home in Düsseldorf either, he spent most of his time on the island of Ischia (more than six months a year since 1962).

Artistic creation

Bursche's work is extensive. The palette of his art includes lithography , pencil drawing , etching , chalk and, in the early days, also the silver pen drawing and layer painting used by Dix . In the early years he mainly painted portraits , female nudes and landscapes . His stays in Italy after 1958 led to a new artistic expression. Very colorful paintings in watercolor and pastel were created .
