Layer painting
The layers painting is a technique of oil painting . The work is not done with a wash , i.e. transparent, but with thin and covering layers of paint. The lower layers of the picture only have an effect in terms of color where they are not painted over and where they remain. Thus, the motif can be painted over, corrected and changed very often. The underpainting can be done with acrylic or tempera paints . In the layered painting, the picture looks a bit more flat and striking .
Acrylic paint and the layer painting
Acrylic paint works well in the painting technique for several reasons. Acrylic paint has short drying times, which means that the paint does not mix when applied one after the other. As the water evaporates during drying, the color loses volume, making it more transparent afterwards.
