Youth and Beginnings

Liv Tyler is the daughter of former model and playmate Bebe Buell and musician Steven Tyler of the rock band Aerosmith . Tyler was named after the Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann after her mother saw the actress on the cover of a TV magazine shortly before Liv was born in 1977. Most of her youth Tyler grew up with the musician Todd Rundgrenwith whom her mother was in a relationship for a long time. For years, the mother kept the truth about her origins from her daughter and let her grow up believing that Rundgren was her father. Only in late childhood did Buell tell her daughter, who until then had also borne the surname Rundgren , that Tyler was her birth father.

Tyler, who suffered from ADHD in her youth, attended school in Portland, Maine , until she was twelve , before moving back with her mother to her native New York City, where she graduated in 1995.
