Paulina Porizkova (born April 9, 1965 in Prostějov , Czechoslovakia ; as Pavlína Pořízková ) is a Czech - American model and actress .

Life

Her parents fled Czechoslovakia to Sweden after the Soviet invasion in 1968 . The children, who were brought up by their grandmother in the meantime, were only able to join them after seven years.

In 1980, Porizkova was hired by the modeling agency Elite Model Management . She has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Life , Vogue , Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Playboy . In the 1980s she was one of the most famous photo models worldwide. She was also the leading actress in the music video for the song Drive . In 1988 she received approximately six million US dollars as an actress for a commercial for the cosmetics company Estée Lauder Inc. She was also a jury member for America's Next Top Model from seasons 10 to 13 .

Porizkova played one of the main roles in the film Nina's Alibi (1989) alongside Tom Selleck , for which she was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 1990 . In the movie Arizona Dream (1993) she played a major role alongside Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway ; this was followed by a role in the film Thursday - Ein Murderischer Tag (1998, alongside Aaron Eckhart ) and the leading role in Death Never Comes Alone (2000, alongside Rutger Hauer ). She turned down the offer of the leading role in the James Bond film GoldenEye . In 2007 she published the novel A Model Summer . In 2010, Paulina Porizkova and her model colleague Heidi Klum received Chromolume No. 6 for the episode 6x17. 7 of the American television series Desperate Housewives , in which Paulina plays herself.

From 1989 to 2018 Porizkova was married to the musician Ric Ocasek , whom she met in 1984 while shooting the video for The Cars music video Drive . The couple have two sons. She received US citizenship.
