Aaron Edward Eckhart (born March 12, 1968 in Cupertino , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Aaron Eckhart was born in California, the youngest son of James Conrad Eckhart, an IT professional, and Mary Martha Eckhart (née Lawrence), a writer. He has two older brothers. His father was of Russian German descent, and his mother had English and Scottish roots. He has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since he was born, and has been on a two-year missionary trip to France and Switzerland .

In 1981 Eckhart moved with his family to England because his father worked there for some time as a computer specialist. The family lived in Walton-on-Thames and later in Cobham , among others . Eckhart attended ACS International Schools there , where he first appeared in a school performance as Charlie Brown . In 1985 Eckhart moved to Sydney , Australia , where he again attended the local ACS International School. In his senior year at school, he left school for the time being to work in a cinema for a while. He later completed his school leaving certificate in an adult education course. In 1988, Eckhart returned to the United States and enrolled in acting at Brigham Young University in Hawaii , but later moved to the university of the same name in Provo , Utah . In 1994 he completed his studies with a bachelor's degree .

During his time at the university, Eckhart met the theater director Neil LaBute , who hired him for many of his plays. Eckhart gained his first professional acting experience. After completing his studies, Eckhart moved to New York City and took on various odd jobs such as bus drivers and bartenders to make a living. As a professional actor , he was first seen in commercials before his first small role in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1994 .

In 1997 he was hired again by Neil LaBute for the film adaptation of his play In the Company of Men . Eckhart took on the lead role of a frustrated office worker. The film received positive reviews and Eckhart won an Independent Spirit Award and a Golden Satellite Award for its performance . This was followed by bigger roles in Molly at Elisabeth Shue's side and in Oliver Stones Every Damn Sunday .

In 2000 he starred in Steven Soderbergh's drama Erin Brockovich and in Nurse Betty , which his regular director LaBute was again directing. In the next few years Eckhart finally became a popular leading actor. In 2001 he was seen as a young detective at the side of Jack Nicholson in The Promise and received further positive reviews for it. In 2002 he starred in the movie Obsessive, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow . In the same year he took on the leading role in the disaster film The Core . 2003 followed other roles in the films Paycheck - Die Abrechnung next to Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman and in The Missing next to Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones .

In 2004, Eckhart starred in the lead role of an FBI investigator in the thriller Suspect Zero . However, the film did not become a huge hit. He also worked as a film producer on the 2005 film Neverwas , in which he starred alongside William Hurt , Jessica Lange and Nick Nolte . In the same year he played the role of a tobacco lobbyist in the film satire Thank You for Smoking , which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. This was followed by roles in films such as Conversation (s) With Other Women , The Black Dahlia (2006) and Recipe for Love (2007). In 2008, Eckhart starred in the Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan . He took over the role of prosecutor Harvey "Two-Face" Dent . The film became a huge success and joined the list of the most successful films.

In 2009 he starred in the romantic film Love Happens alongside Jennifer Aniston and Martin Sheen . In 2010 he starred as husband of Nicole Kidman in the drama Rabbit Hole . A year later, Eckhart took on the lead role in Jonathan Liebesman's science fiction film World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles . In 2013, he took on the role of President of the United States in the action thriller Olympus Has Fallen, alongside Gerard Butler . In 2014 he played the leading role as Adam Frankenstein in the fantasy film I, Frankenstein .

He is mostly dubbed in German by Tom Vogt . Dubbing actors such as Philipp Moog and Martin Umbach Eckhart have also lent their voices in isolated films .
