Walton-on-Thames

Walton-on-Thames is a town in Borough Elmbridge in the county of Surrey in south east England . It has about 22,800 inhabitants and is located 25 km southwest of central London as the crow flies on the south bank of the Thames , which has been spanned by the newly built Walton Bridge since the middle of the 18th century .
The place was already settled by Celts . The British archaeologist William Camden (1551–1623) mistakenly believed that he had found the place where Julius Caesar crossed the Thames during his second invasion . The name of the city is Anglo-Saxon ; the city is mentioned in the Doomesday Book as "Waletona".
