Elmbridge is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Surrey in England , which borders Greater London in the north-east . The administrative seat is Esher ; other significant places are Hersham , Molesey , Thames Ditton , Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge . There is a town partnership with Rueil-Malmaison in France.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the urban districts Esher and Walton and Weybridge . It is named after Elmbridge Hundred, an old Surrey county council.
