action
Bill works as a manager in a bank run by his father-in-law. Not only does he have little to do there, his colleagues don't take him seriously either. When he found out one day that his wife Jess was having an affair with TV presenter Chip Johnson, he was so frustrated that he beat up his opponent and was then briefly taken into police custody.
In this situation, Bill meets the teenage kid and they become friends. Kid helps Bill reorganize his life. He convinces him to make his wife jealous in order to win her back. To this end, Kid persuades the lingerie saleswoman Lucy, whom he recently met, to pretend to be Bill's new friend.
Bill wants to start his own business with a new branch of a donut chain that he would like to run and independent of his father-in-law. To open this, however, he needs his wife Jess; Lucy steps in for this. When Bill finally reconciles with his wife and she is also ready to take over the management of a branch with him, everything turns out differently. Bill's approach to life has changed so much with the help of kids that he decides to lead a different life, one that makes him happy. His own company does not seem to be the right way to go. He cuts his hair, which he has always avoided as far as possible, changes his wardrobe and confidently explains to his father-in-law for the first time that he will no longer work in his bank. Jacoby accepts Bill's decision and reasons for it, and he praises him for attacking Chip Johnson. Jacoby even states that if he had been in this situation, he would have done the same. Despite his daughter's attempt to hide their affair, Jacoby knew about it. Despite a certain reconciliation, Bill and Jess still want to go their separate ways and sell their house.
Bill goes to kids school to say goodbye. He is excited about a new, unknown chapter in his life that he now wants to start. He says goodbye with the promise to stay in touch with Kid and tells him to look in his locker. When the Kid does this, small fireworks explode there, amusing him and showing that Bill is on the right track.

Reviews
Eddie Cockrell scoffed in Variety magazine on September 13, 2007, saying that the direction and the presentations were "as subtle as a heart attack ." Eckhart, like Cary Grant , simplifies that Alba has little to do apart from her smile. The pictures of the locations in the St. Louis area are "nicely done".
David Nusair wrote on Reel Film Reviews that the film was "basically entertaining" but that it could be forgotten. The intrigues of the script, which lacks a uniform tone, are "increasingly silly" ("increasingly silly machinations of the film's screenplay"). Aaron Eckhart is doing "fantastic work" and turning Bill into a personable figure.
Kino.de evaluated: “Aaron Eckhart, recently knighted as a 'Batman' opponent Two-Face, is a colorless loser in this sympathetic comedy in the style of and with ingredients similar to the one in the However, American Beauty is one or two leagues higher. Timothy 'Hitman' Olyphant is the rival, Barbara Bush actress Elizabeth Banks is the wife, and Jessica Alba appears as the femme fatale from the relationship service. First choice for comedy fans. "
At film-rezensions.de the critics rated: “Meet Bill is a drama comedy about depression, happiness, the ups and downs in everyday life, work and love. The story is very detailed, pays attention to the little things and not the superficiality. "
