Jonathan Liebesman (born September 15, 1976 , Johannesburg , South Africa ) is a South African director .
Career
Liebesman graduated from the South African School of Film and Drama. In 1996, his cousin, who was studying at the University of New York , convinced him to enroll at the Tisch School of the Arts .
His first film, "Genesis and Catastrophe", is based on Roald Dahl 's short story of the same name. The eight-minute film, for which he also wrote the script himself, got him the attention he'd been hoping for from Hollywood. He won awards at the 2000 Hollywood Film Festival and the Austin Film Festival.
