David Foster (film producer)

David Foster (born 1929 in New York City , † December 23, 2019 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer .

Life

Foster was born into an immigrant family in the Bronx . When he was 17, the family moved to California. After college, Foster served in the US Army and participated in the Korean War. With a degree in journalism, he became the speechwriter for John W. O'Daniel at Pearl Harbor . As a later press spokesman, he represented personalities such as Steve McQueen and Peter Sellers . From 1968 Foster was active as a film producer.

In 1972 he produced Getaway with McQueen in the lead role, and more than two decades later he was also involved in the remake Getaway . In 1974 Foster founded the production company The Turman Foster Company together with Lawrence Turman , which existed for around 20 years. David Foster's output includes around 30 productions for film and only rarely for television.

Foster had been married since 1959 and had two sons.
