Helga Schager (* 1955 in Aschach an der Donau , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian visual artist and radio journalist who lives and works in Linz .

life and work

Helga Schager studied at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz . Since 1981 her exhibition and project activities have taken her to Germany , Italy , the Czech Republic , Lithuania , Turkey , New York City , Bolivia , Brazil and Nicaragua . Her artistic forms of expression range from stencil art in public spaces to works on canvas and X-ray images, collages, textile art, computer graphics, art in construction and also audio and art installations. Her work is characterized by the range of media, and the artist's feminist and always political attitude is constant.

“Helga Schager juggles [...] with set pieces and symbols from traditional systems such as family, domesticity, being a wife. [...] In doing so, it removes these symbols from their contexts, from the obvious, from the obvious, and releases them neatly and sharply separated for viewing, thus also their dismantling ”.

Her works can be found in the art collection of Upper Austria, in the Nordico - Museum of the City of Linz, Museum Angerlehner , Federal Chancellery (Artothek).

Since 2000 Helga Schager has been working as a radio journalist for Radio FRO (Freier Rundfunk Oberösterreich) in Linz for feminist broadcasting channels, primarily in the arts and culture. To date she has created over 170 radio reports, including features, radio plays and sound collages, and is the initiator and producer of the "Listen To The Female Artists" series with 37  radio features . Your contributions will be broadcast on Radio Orange 94.0 Vienna, Radio Agora Klagenfurt, Radio Helsinki Graz, Radiofabrik 107.5 Salzburg, Free Radio Innsbruck (Freirad 105.9), Free Radio Freistadt , Radio LoRa Zurich.
