Nextcomic Festival Linz

The Nextcomic Festival has been held annually in March in Linz ( Upper Austria ) since 2009 . It is the only such event in Austria and one of the most important German-language comic festivals.

Nextcomic is a Linz09 - Capital of Culture project funded by the European Union and founded by festival director Gottfried Gusenbauer, who is now director of the Krems Caricature Museum , who continues to be involved as a program advisory board.

The promotion of the Austrian comics scene is also one of the main concerns of the Nextcomic Festival. In addition to comics themselves, related visual arts, character design , architecture , film, music, design , animation and intermediality are topics of the event.

The art association lin-c (association for comics and illustrated literature) is responsible for project management, in particular the program, organization and finances. The cooperation partners and artistic project managers from the exhibition houses are also actively involved in programming and presentation. The Ars Electronica Center is a permanent partner of Nextcomic.

In addition to the numerous exhibitions, the festival also features lectures, comic readings, animated films, workshops, cosplay presentations, 24-hour comic drawing, comic games, parties and concerts, papertoys, comic battles, comic exchange and book table (Pictopia), signing appointments and other things.

Nextcomic corner

In the Nextcomic Corner in the Ursulinenhof , exhibitions (previously Michaela Konrad (artist) , Leopold Maurer, Kriebaum, Doris Schamp and others) are shown all year round . In cooperation with the Atelierhaus Salzamt there is the possibility of moving into an open studio as part of Nextcomic. The works created here will be exhibited during the festival or shown as extra-tour exhibitions.
