The Phönix Theater is an independent central stage founded in Linz , Upper Austria in 1989 . Around 25,000 people visit the performances at the three in-house venues every year.

The program includes topics that are closely related to the current socio-political context. On the one hand, classics are reinterpreted, on the other hand, the house offers young authors a platform.

management

Harald Gebhartl is currently the artistic director, while Romana Staufer-Hutter is responsible for the management . Between 1989 and 1996 Georg Schmiedleitner (one of the co-founders) was artistic director of the house and Stefan Kurowski was managing director until 2005.

Awards

In November 2014, Susanne Lietzow's production of Johann Nestroy's Hell Fear at the Phönix Theater was awarded the Nestroy Theater Prize for the best federal state performance .
