history

Equatorial Energia (formerly Brisk Participações SA ) was founded by PPL Global on June 16, 1999 to participate in the Companhia Energética do Maranhão (CEMAR) privatization auction , which was founded in 1958 to distribute electricity throughout the Brazilian state of Maranhão. The company's purpose is to participate in other companies, consortia and companies that are active in the electricity sector or in related areas.

CEMAR was privatized on June 15, 2000 as part of the Brazilian Federal Government's National Privatization Program (“NPP”) and acquired by Equatorial Energia, which at the time was indirectly controlled by PPL Global LLC. Starting in 2001, CEMAR experienced economic and financial problems that jeopardized the adequate provision of public electricity distribution services in Maranhão state. However, the problems were resolved.

In March 2006, the company's shares were listed on B3 SA. The company's free float reached 56.8% of the share capital .

On November 5, 2007, the company presented a three-phase restructuring plan to the market. Following its implementation, which was approved by the Brazilian regulatory authority Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL) , the company's geographic restrictions, which were previously restricted to the north, north-east and mid-west of Brazil, were lifted. The division can now cover the entire Brazilian territory and Latin America. In November 2011, Equatorial Energia expanded its business with the indirect acquisition of 51% of Sol Energias Comercializadora de Energia SA ("Sol Energias") through its wholly owned subsidiary 55 Soluções.

On November 1, 2012, Centrais Elétricas do Pará SA (CELPA) became a subsidiary of the company. In December 2012 Equatorial carried out a capital increase in which new shares were issued for R $ 1.1 billion at a price of R $ 16.00 each. Thereafter, the free float amounted to 77% of the share capital.
