Marfrig is the third largest Brazilian company in the food industry, after JBS SA and Brasil Foods, and one of the largest beef producers in the world. The company is based in São Paulo .

The main business area is the processing of meat ( cattle , pigs , sheep , poultry ). The group has production facilities in 17 countries and is active in around 160 countries around the world. The company was one of the official sponsors of the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa and 2014 in Brazil .

history

Marfrig was founded in 1986 as a retailer of beef for restaurant chains. From 2005 the company began to expand abroad. Companies in Argentina , Chile and Uruguay were acquired. Marfrig has been listed in the Bovespa index since 2007 . In 2008, Moy Park, Ireland's largest chicken producer, was taken over. Two years later, the American meat producer Keystone Foods was taken over.
