Cogna , formerly known as Kroton , is the largest private education company in the world and was founded in Belo Horizonte in 1966 . It has been in a variety of educational sectors for over 45 years, such as preschools , elementary schools , secondary schools , adult schools , colleges , free courses and other related educational activities, as well as college, professional and postgraduate education.

Currently, Kroton has 176 colleges in 116 cities in Brazil, as well as 1,410 distance learning centers accredited by the Ministry of Education. Preparatory courses are also offered under the LFG brand. In primary and secondary education, the company counted 36,000 students in 54 of its own schools in the second quarter of 2019, 26,000 students in 125 units from Red Balloon and 1.3 million students who associated around 3,800 with the core content, additional content and digital services of the learning system Schools were looked after.

In 2019 the company changed its name from Kroton to Cogna and moved its headquarters from Belo Horizonte to São Paulo . However, on its Brazilian website, the company continues to refer to itself as Kroton. The company's main competitor is YDUQS, based in Rio de Janeiro .
