Cosan is a Brazilian company that produces cane sugar , bioethanol , energy and food . It was founded in 1936 as a sugar factory in Piracicaba . The company is owned by Rubens Ometto .

Cosan operates the Raízen joint venture with Shell .

1936 Beginning of the company's history with the establishment of a sugar factory in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo .

1986 Expansion by acquiring new sugar factories and exporting sugar from the southern states of Brazil

1993 First export of bulk sugar

2002 Further expansion with the acquisition of Da Barra Mill in Bara Bonita, São Paulo state.

2005 Going public in São Paulo resulted in proceeds of 400 million US dollars. This made Cosan the first company from this branch to join the Novo Mercado.

2007 Cosan Limited went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

2008

  • Establishment of the railway and logistics company Rumo Logística .
  • Acquisition of ExxonMobil's assets in Brazil. This was the entry into the fuel and lubricant trade in Brazil.
  • Establishment of Radar Propriedades, a company for the marketing of agricultural land.

2009 acquisition of Nova America, Açúcar União.

2011 Foundation of Raizen, a joint venture between Cosan and Shell for the production of sugar and ethanol from sugar cane .

2012 Inauguration of Brazil's largest logistics center by Rumo Logística in Itirapina, State of São Paulo.

  • Acquisition of the majority in Comgás, Brazil's leading natural gas producer.
  • Acquisition of Comma of England.
  • Inauguration of Logum, an ethanol pipeline from the production facilities to the consumption regions of Paulínia, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

2014 Outsourcing of the logistics activities of Cosan S / A to Cosan Logística.

2015 Merger of Rumo Logistica with América Latina Logística , (ALL) to become Brazil's largest logistics company with its own railway network.

2016

  • Cosan Biomassa forms a joint venture with Sumitomo of Japan to produce pellets from sugar cane bagasse (pressed residue from sugar cane) and straw.
  • Cosan decides to sell all but 3% of its stake in Radar.
