business development

In 1997 the Santander Group acquired Banco Geral Comércio SA. Three acquisitions made in the following years brought the Santander Group a position among the largest financial companies in Brazil: In January 2000, the Group acquired the Brazilian banks Banco Meridional and Banco Bozano, Simonsen . In November of the same year Santander acquired a majority stake in Banespa and in 2008 the operations of the Dutch company ABN AMRO in Latin America and the stakes in Banco Real were bought .

Currently, Santander Brasil is the third private bank in Brazil in terms of assets and the first among internationally represented banks. A total of 32.4 million customers, including 3.6 million loyal customers, can fall back on approx. 1,897 branches and 7,119 ATMs of Santander Brasil, which is particularly well represented in south-east Brazil. In 2007, the parent company Banco Santander acquired parts of the Dutch ABN AMRO together with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Fortis . A national platform for Santander Brasil was developed primarily through the acquisition of Banco Real . The Banespa name was dropped and Santander Brasil was adopted as a franchise.
