Itaúsa is a Brazilian conglomerate with headquarters in São Paulo . The conglomerate is active in various areas such as finance, wood processing and flooring, porcelain and metal fittings, chemicals and electronics.

history

The history of the group began with the establishment of the first investment bank in Brazil. It was called Banco Federal Itaú de Investimentos SA and was founded on May 6, 1966. In November 1970 the name was changed to Banco Itaú de Investimento SA and in May 1973 to Banco Itaú Português de Investimento SA . The group accumulated a large portfolio of stocks and became a significant shareholder in a number of Itaú's financial institutions.

As a result, the company changed its business objective and discontinued its investment banking activities to become the lead company of Instituições Financeiras Itaú , a holding company that then comprised more than 50 companies. At the general assembly on December 9, 1974, the name was changed to Investimentos Itaú SA . The business objective was to support private Brazilian companies in which the company held shares.

At a general assembly on April 30, 1991, the official name was changed to Itaúsa - Investimentos Itaú SA .

The main companies controlled by Itaúsa are leaders in their business areas: Itaú Unibanco Holding SA and its subsidiaries Itaú Unibanco and Banco Itaú BBA in the financial segment, and Duratex, Alpargatas, NTS and Itautec, market leaders in their respective industries.

Itaú Unibanco

According to Bloomberg, Itaú Unibanco was the largest private bank in Brazil at the end of 2016 based on total assets and market value. The company operates in Brazil and 18 other countries. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the two banks Banco Itaú and Unibanco and has 57.5 million customers.

Duratex

Duratex manufactures products for the furniture and finishing sectors in the construction industry, in particular fibreboard, wooden floors, sanitary ware and metal and electric shower heads.

Alpargatas

Alpargatas is Brazil's largest shoe company. Together, the Havaianas and Dupé brands are market leaders in the Brazilian flip-flop market. Havaianas the most famous Brazilian consumer goods brand. The company has a strong presence in the sports shoe market in Argentina (Topper) and Brazil (Mizuno). The Alpargatas Group employs around 20,000 people.

NTS

NTS (Nova Transportadora do Sudeste SA) transports natural gas through gas pipelines.

It operates a gas pipeline network with a capacity of more than 2,000 km and a capacity of 158.2 million cubic meters of gas per day. NTS gas pipelines connect the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and São Paulo (which account for 50% of gas consumption in Brazil) with the Brazil-Bolivia gas pipeline, LNG terminals and gas processing facilities.

Itautec

Itautec is active in the consumer electronics, banking and retail automation sectors. The company has the largest number of ATMs in the world and the second largest in Latin America. The company employs 5,709 people.
