action

Number 5

After being struck by lightning, the military robot SAINT number 5 from Nova Robotics suddenly goes into business for itself . On a turbulent chase, its inventors Ben Jabituya and Newton Crosby and the military have their hands full to recapture the robot. On his escape, number 5 ends up with the animal lover Stephanie, with whom he befriends. Number 5 is constantly developing new skills and gaining knowledge at a breathtaking pace, e.g. B. by reading through books like a flip book. The persecutors decide, because they fail to capture him, to destroy number 5. But Stephanie helps number 5 with his escape because she has realized that he is not a war robot, but develops emotions and is therefore more of a living being than a machine.

Newton and Stephanie escape in a truck with number 5. When they are caught up by the military and forced to give up, number 5 takes flight and rolls away at breakneck speed. The soldiers open fire and just before the robot is out of range, it is hit and smashed by a projectile, leaving only a pile of junk. But while the military are celebrating their triumph and Stephanie sadly moves away from the scene, number 5 emerges from his hiding place on the back of the truck. It turns out that number 5 has outsmarted his pursuers: the robot that escaped from the truck was not number 5, but a structurally identical doppelganger that he had assembled himself from spare parts. Number 5 gives himself the nickname "Johnny 5" at the end of the film after the song Who's Johnny he heard.
