Austin Campbell Pendleton (born March 27, 1940 in Warren , Ohio ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Pendleton graduated from Yale University . He made his debut in 1968, first in unnamed extras, then alongside Jackie Gleason and Groucho Marx as Professor Fred in the comedy Skidoo . In the comedy Is' what, Doc? he appeared in the role of Frederick Larrabee on the side of Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal .

In the 1994 movie Tess and Her Bodyguard , Pendleton played the role of Earl Fowler, the driver and kidnapper of Tess Carlisle, played by Shirley MacLaine . For the role in the movie A Beautiful Mind (2001) he was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2002.

Pendleton is since 1979 member of the Chicago ensemble Steppenwolf Theater Company . He has also appeared and directed numerous Broadway plays such as Anatevka and a few off-Broadway plays . He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1981 for directing The Little Foxes .

Pendleton has been married to actress Katina Commings since 1970 and has one child.
